Faculty
Dr. Melody Anderson is the Director of Regional Anesthesiology at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, the region’s only Level 1 trauma center, located in Charlotte, North Carolina. She completed her anesthesiology residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital and a fellowship in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Her passion for regional anesthesia in trauma patients stems from the creativity and versatility it demands. These patients often present with multiple injuries, complex medical histories, and limited mobility. This requires both a deep understanding of anatomy and innovative thinking to provide effective, high-quality analgesia.
Dr. Anderson has spearheaded a unique interdepartmental collaboration with the Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship Program. In this partnership, emergency medicine physicians with advanced ultrasound training teach point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) to anesthesiologists, while regional anesthesiologists train emergency physicians in performing essential nerve blocks for common acute pain conditions encountered in the ED.
She serves as faculty for the American Society of Regional Anesthesia (ASRA), European Society of Regional Anaesthesia (ESRA), and American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) annual meetings. Dr. Anderson is the current Chair of the ASRA Private Practice Special Interest Group and represents the United States on the ESRA International Committee.
Outside of her clinical and academic roles, Dr. Anderson enjoys creating educational and engaging content on TikTok and Twitter, and camping in the mountains with her two children.
